THE BKLYN MILE
A Mad Dash Through the Heart of Brooklyn, Since 2016
Some races are polite. Scenic. “Fun.”
This isn’t that.
The BKLYN MILE was born in 2016 out of caffeine, chaos and the collective frustration of runners who didn’t want another 5K through Central Park. The community wanted noise. They wanted the streets. They wanted Brooklyn.
And so it began. One straight shot between South 11th and North 7th on Kent Avenue. No turns. No water stops. Just pavement, pressure and a crowd that doesn’t know how to whisper. Every year since, it’s grown in size and in decibels. Now in its ninth running, the BKLYN MILE has become a cornerstone of the New York City running scene.
What the Hell is This Thing?
The BKLYN MILE is a point-to-point certified road mile. That means no loops, no cones, no double-backs just a drag strip through Brooklyn with a finish line that hits like a brick wall and a crowd that doesn’t let up.
From the fast movers to the backof the packers, to the beginners, to the family and friends. People hang out of apartment windows, dance on balconies. Music rattles from fire escapes. Strangers hand you high-fives, beers, or both.
It’s a race, a block party and has become a Brooklyn institution.

What to Expect
It’s August. It’s hot. Don’t be a hero, hydrate early and often. Essentia is here for water. Celsius brings the liquid rocket fuel. We'll bring the noise.
Afterparty
The finish line empties straight into the BKLYN MILE block party. (Marsha P Johnson State Park ) Live DJ. Street food. Vibes for days. Brooklyn Running Co. will be holding it down with a tent and the usual suspects.
But the afterparty? Talk to Bandit. They own this. We can’t come close.
Why It Matters
The BKLYN MILE isn’t about medals. It’s about Brooklyn.
It’s a race that feels like the borough itself — gritty, proud, and a little unhinged.
Brooklyn Running Co. has backed and produced this thing from the jump. Not because it’s easy. But because it’s right. The energy is unmatched. The people are real. And when you hit that final stretch on Kent with the skyline in front of you and a roar in your ears, there’s nothing else like it.
